Overview

In automotive electronics, an electronic control unit (ECU) controls one or more electrical subsystems in a vehicle.

Some modern cars have up to 80 ECUs, including for: Airbag control, Convenience control, Door Control, Engine Control, Climate Control, Man Machine Interface, Powertrain Control, Telephone Control, Transmission Control, Seat Control, speed control.

The increasing complexity and number of ECUs in a vehicle has become a key challenge for OEMs.
