ISO-26262 Functional Safety in Automotive Electronics

ISO-26262 is an adaptation for the automotive industry, of IEC61508 Functional safety of electrical / electronic / programmable electronic safety-related systems.

It applies to safety-related road vehicle E/E systems, and addresses hazards due to malfunctions, excluding nominal performances of active and passive safety systems. Risk is determined for based on customer risk. It identifies the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) associated with each undesired effects in terms of risk to the customer, and provides automotive-specific analysis methods. It uses ASIL for assigning qualitative and quantitative targets to functions to be implemented by E/E automotive systems, and provides ASIL-dependent requirements for the whole lifecycle of the E/E system (incl. H/w and S/w components).
